God is Moving in the Amazon Region

At the end of July, I spent about 10 days in south-central Brazil to meet with groups involved with indigenous communities in Brazil and surrounding nations. One group, CONPLEI, held a celebration of their 32nd anniversary. (They’d originally planned a 30th anniversary event that was canceled due to COVID travel restrictions). CONPLEI is the oldest network of Indigenous missionaries in the Americas.

Their work has inspired Indigenous communities across the Amazon to follow them in sharing the gospel with their Indigenous neighbors.

One meeting I observed was between leaders in the Trans Amazon Network, and two local church leaders in an Indigenous community in the rainforest of Suriname (see a glimpse of this in the video above). The Indigenous leaders in Suriname shared that they had recently sent a couple from their community to Canada to learn English to eventually share the gospel with a First Nations community in Canada. This was exciting stuff!

Several people I met in Brazil will be providing articles for a future edition of EMQ which will focus on Indigenous peoples in the Americas. Be on the lookout for that!
