New Book: Essentials for People Care and Development

I’m excited to announce a new book that I’ve served as co-editor of has just been released: Essentials of People Care and Development. Back in 2021, I began working on an issue of Evangelical Missions Quarterly (EMQ) on missionary (or member) care. Much of the content became part of the April 2022 edition of EMQ, but I had more content than I could use.

I approached Missio Nexus to see if this additional content could be used in a second book in the “Improve” series. I’d worked as co-editor of the first book (Essentials of Fundraising and Development), and thought its multi-author anthology approach would work well for what I had in mind.

I had three chapters in hand, but I needed help to find more authors and determine additional topics. After asking around for who could be available, Geoff Whiteman was recommended to me. Geoff is a counselor and missionary care researcher. When I approached him not only was he enthusiastic to get involved, he also had a whole table of contents in mind.

Over the next several months we worked together to pull together the content. Our final piece includes chapters by 15 authors plus 3 more of us only contributing to front matter in the book. Missio Nexus provided us with a designer (Kurtis Amundson). So all together, 19 of us contributed to the creation of this book over around 10 months. This dream is now a reality!

It’s a fantastic resource for anyone – from concerned pastors to professional care providers – who wants to participate in caring for missionaries.

You can order print copies on Amazon, or download a digital version from the Missio Nexus website.

Gifts given to my ministry made my participation in this project possible. Thank you!
